Yacht hybrid drive advantages (part 1)

"There are many environmental benefits to using hybrid propulsion, and all of these benefits are consistent with the style of expedition and research yachts built by Bering Yachts. Using a hybrid system lowers the yacht's fuel consumption, reduces polluting emissions, increases efficiency and allows the yacht to go further for less. It means greener yachting - something that is more important than ever as the world becomes more aware of the impact of fossil fuels and pollution, as well as an individual's carbon footprint.

For those cruising in marine reserves and pristine waters, knowing that their yacht's impact can be kept to a minimum is often another invaluable benefit. 'Silent Mode' is also an experience - there is something very special about enjoying a deserted anchorage undisturbed. Likewise, the ability to not run at full engine power in port is extremely appealing.

As more and more destinations on the planet become protected zones where diesel-powered vessels are not allowed to enter to protect these precious sites, the option of sailing with an electric drive will certainly become more and more attractive. From coral reefs to natural reefs, there are more and more cruising areas that will soon only allow yachts with electric propulsion to enter. For those owners who want to see the world without restrictions, this is an extremely important consideration when thinking about whether to invest in electric propulsion." Alexei Mikhailov, founder of Bering Yachts.

In the USA, there are currently discussions about passing on a tax advantage to shipyards that install electric drives and hybrid systems.
