CE category A certification for yachts

The European Union has created a Recreational Craft Directive that sets design standards for recreational craft up to 24 meters in length. To measure the degree of seaworthiness of a boat, there are four categories. These are based on the wave height and wind speed the boat is designed for and can handle.

  • Category A Certification - All Bering yachts are self-sufficient boats designed for extended cruising above wind force 8 (above 40 knots) and significant wave heights above 4 meters, but not for exceptional conditions such as hurricanes.

  • Category B certification - Offshore: includes boats operating offshore with winds up to 40 knots and significant seas up to 4 meters.

  • Category C certification - Inshore: refers to boats operating near the coast and in sheltered waters in winds up to 27 knots and wave heights up to 2 meters.

  • Category D certification - boats in small lakes and rivers: includes boats designed for inland waters and sheltered areas with wind forces up to 18 knots and wave heights up to 0.5 meters.

The CE marking is an important indicator of the safety and quality of a vessel. It ensures that the vessel meets European standards and is suitable for its intended use. Boat owners and buyers should make sure that the yacht has the appropriate CE marking and certification to ensure that it meets the requirements for the category.
