A portrait of Alexei Mikhailov, the founder of Bering Yachts

Alexei Mikhailov, the founder and president of Bering Yachts, is not a typical yacht builder. Born in Magadan on the coast of the Sea of Okhotsk in northeastern Siberia, the entrepreneur has a PhD in hydrogeology and experience in a variety of industries, from scientific research and land reclamation to livestock trading and commercial fishing. In 2007, he founded Bering Yachts to build steel and aluminum explorer yachts, first in China and then in Turkey. The brand has been more of a backseat operation, but recently it has enjoyed growing popularity.

Mikhailov's passion is boats and business. After the political upheaval in his home country, he quickly founded a consulting firm focused on the mining industry. In the U.S., he found commercial success but remained unfulfilled. That changed when he launched Bering Yachts in 2007 and the Bering Yachts Story began.

The decision to move production to Turkey was due to the difficult conditions of owning a shipyard in China and the lack of experience of Chinese companies in yacht building. In Turkey, Mikhailov found a promising environment to develop his business.

Bering Yachts always builds steel and aluminum yachts because, according to Mikhailov, they are safer and more seaworthy than GRP yachts. His own experience with a GRP sport fishing boat that went up in flames reinforced this conviction.

Over the years, Bering Yachts' product offering has evolved. The current model range extends from 65 to 145 feet (20 to 44.2 meters), with safety, comfort and seaworthiness always at the forefront. The higher displacement weight and low center of gravity make the yachts particularly stable at sea.

Mikhailov believes that a yacht under 24 meters can offer everything you need. In his free time, he values adventure and exploration at sea. The Bering Yachts story reflects his passion for robust, safe and comfortable vessels that provide their owners with unique experiences on the world's oceans.
